About

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a national Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) for students in Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) education in public and private schools through grade 12. FCCLA offers intra-curricular resources and opportunities for students to pursue careers that support families. Since 1945, FCCLA members have been making a difference in their families, careers, and communities by addressing important personal, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education.

With over 237,000 student members and more than 7,000 chapter advisers across 5,100 chapters, the FCCLA family continues to expand and thrive, fostering a vibrant community of passionate individuals committed to making a difference. The work of FCCLA helps students and teachers focus on various youth concerns, including parenting, family relationships, substance abuse, peer pressure, sustainability, nutrition and fitness, teen violence, and career preparation in four specific Career Pathways. Involvement in FCCLA offers members the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life—planning, goal setting, problem-solving, decision making, and interpersonal communication—necessary in the home and workplace.

  • Creed

We are the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. We face the future with warm courage and high hope. For we have the clear consciousness of seeking old and precious values. For we are the builders of homes, homes for America's future, homes where living will be the expression of everything that is good and fair, homes where truth and love and security and faith will be realities, not dreams. We are the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. We face the future with warm courage and high hope.

  • Governance

Ten National Officers (students) are elected by voting delegates at the annual National Leadership Conference and together make up the National Executive Council. The National Board of Directors is the governing body of FCCLA and is composed of adult representatives from education and business and four youth representatives. State associations and local chapters elect their own youth officers. State programs come under the direction of Family and Consumer Sciences education state staff. Chapter advisers are Family and Consumer Sciences teachers.

  • Financial and Cooperative Support

FCCLA is supported by student membership dues in addition to funds raised from individuals, corporations, foundations, and federal grants. FCCLA is endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education (Office of Career, Technical and Adult Education) and the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS).

  • National Staff

An executive director leads the organization and heads the national staff that gives direction to and carries out programs, communications, membership services, and financial management.

  • National Publications

Two e-newsletters are published weekly to affiliated chapter members and advisers. Chapter members receive a weekly "Member Minute" e-newsletter, and chapter advisers receive a weekly "Fast Facts" e-newsletter. These newsletters contain upcoming dates and deadlines along with important reminders and also showcase the work of members and chapters across the nation. Copies of past publications can be viewed and downloaded in the FCCLA Portal.
