Youth Service America is currently accepting applications for State Farm® Good Neighbor Service-Learning Grants to support service-learning projects that culminate on Global Youth Service Day, April 23-25, 2010. School and community educators across the United States and Canada (select provinces) can apply for up to $1,000 in funding for youth-led projects. Service-learning is a teaching and learning strategy integrating meaningful community service with academic study and reflective practice to enrich learning, build civic engagement, and strengthen communities. State Farm Good Neighbor Service-Learning grant applicants are encourage to develop projects that launch on Martin Luther King Day of Service, January 18, 2010, and culminate on the weekend of GYSD, April 23-25, 2010. For the State Farm Good Neighbor Service-Learning Grant application, please visit, www.YSA.org/awards 2010 State Farm® Service-Learning Champion Award, Deadline: December 1 General Mills Champions for Healthy Kids, Deadline: January 15, 2010The American Dietetic Association Foundation, the President’s Challenge, and the General Mills Foundation are partnering to improve youth nutrition and fitness through the General Mills Champions for Healthy Kids initiative. A key component of the initiative is the Champions for Healthy Kids grants, where the General Mills Foundation will award 50 grants, $10,000 each, to not-for-profit organizations with innovative programs that help youth develop both good nutrition and fitness habits. Utilizing its resources and expertise on nutrition issues, the American Dietetic Association Foundation will play a critical role in evaluating the proposals. The President’s Challenge will provide a model program, the President’s Active Lifestyle Award, as part of the initiative. Other components of the initiative include sponsorship of the President’s Active Lifestyle Awards, developing nutrition and fitness mentoring models, and sharing best practices. AmeriCorps State and National Grants , Deadline: January 26, 2010 The Corporation announces the anticipated availability of approximately $363 million to award new, re-copeting, and continuation AmeriCorps State and National grants. Funding priorities are projects that address compelling, unmet needs in one or a combination of the following five national service priority areas: Education, Clean Energy/Enviroment, Healthy Futures, Veterans, Opportunity.
The total funding available for these grants will be set by Congress through the appropriations process now underway. Applications to the Corporation are due January 26, 2010, at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, and successful applicants will be notified in early June 2010.
