Teaching with Teen Times - Word Search Key STAR Events Advice For First-Timers: “The very first time that you do a STAR Event you will be very nervous, scared, and you won't really know what to expect. Just do your very best to prepare yourself to the best of your ability. Ask your adviser, chapter officers, or more experienced FCCLA members for help. It never hurts to go the extra mile.” —Alissa Belna, Ohio FCCLA State Secretary “Always be confident. When answering questions about your event, never say I think so or I'm pretty sure. It's always best to either say, I'm not sure on that answer, but I will be sure and look it up as soon as I can, or just answer the questions to the best of your ability.” —Cali Crissup, National Vice-President of STAR Events “I know the thought of a STAR Event can be overwhelming at times especially with everything else there is to do in life, but participating in STAR Events is a great way for you to pursue something of your interest! Not only are you learning about a new subject but you're gaining life long skills that you will use such as: using resources, teamwork, communication, speaking, and community involvement. Don't forget that it is okay to do a STAR Event by yourself! You can do it!” —Katie Lichtblau, Minnesota FCCLA State President

Service-providing industries will generate almost all of the employment gain from 2006 to 2016 and will provide more than three-quarters of all jobs in 2016. • Professional and related occupations and service occupations—two major occupational groups on opposite ends of the educational and earnings ranges—are projected to grow the fastest and add the most jobs, accounting for more than 6 of 10 new jobs created over the 2006–16 decade. • Twenty-eight of the 30 fastest growing occupations are in professional and related occupations and service occupations. • For 19 of the 30 occupations with the largest job growth, short- or moderate-term on-the-job training are the most significant sources of postsecondary education or training. • For 15 of the 30 fastest growing occupations, a bachelor’s or higher degree is the most significant source of postsecondary education or training. • On-the-job training and work experience are the most significant source of postsecondary education or training for 24 of the 30 occupations projected to have the most total job openings due to growth and net replacements.
